The Festival
WESTWIND is one of the most renowned theatre festivals for young audiences nationwide. It is hosted by a different NRW theatre each year. In addition to a selection of NRW productions, the festival features international guest performances and an extensive programme of accompanying events including workshops, panels and discussions.

To conclude this year’s WESTWIND festival, the awards jury consisting of Ilias Botseas, Megha Kono-Patel and Martina van Boxen announced the winners of the 2022 WESTWIND awards. The prize money of 10,000 euros is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. Additionally, the children’s and youth juries awarded prizes of their own. Members of Drama Control from Theaterrevier Bochum constitute this year’s WESTWIND children’s and youth juries. Their prize money is sponsored by the friends’ association Freundeskreis Schauspielhaus Bochum e.V. and Jan Kath Design GmbH Bochum. Congratulations to all award winners!!! Ausblick 2023
Once the festival ends, it’s time to get ready for the next festival. In 2023, Theater Marabu will host WESTWIND 2023 in Bonn. The application phase for theatre companies that are members of ASSITEJ and based in NRW will begin with the upcoming 2022/23 season. More information can be founded here on this homepage.
This year’s host
The After 30 years, Schauspiel Bochum is finally getting another chance to host the Westwind festival and theatre convention. What an honour! The 2022 edition of WESTWIND festival will take place at our newly opened venue Theaterrevier in Bochum, a place where children’s and youth theatre from Bochum and the whole world can unfold. A place where, together with our youth supervisory board “Drama Control”, we develop new conceptual and artistic perspectives on theatre – with a special focus on inclusion and anti-discriminatory approaches. We are delighted to welcome you to the festival and theatre convention WESTWIND 2022!
